FAQs
Your questions about PowerWatts, answered.
Q: Is there anywhere to change?
A: We don’t currently have changing facilities so please arrive in your kit ready to go.
Q: Do I need to know how to use gears?
A: No, we will teach you all the abilities you’ll need to succeed on a bike or your chosen sport.
Q: Do you need to know how to cycle?
A: No. We offer introductory classes where we can teach you the technique and how to interpret the system.
Q: Is it competitive?
A: Yes, but it’s friendly competition. Our classes are designed to focus you on the training session and compete with yourself, not just on who is the strongest in the room.
Q: Is it a Spin class?
A: It is similar but Powerwatts is more focused on performance and teaching you the skills you need to enhance your performance both inside the studio and outside on your bike. Don’t worry, we still have music to accompany the classes.
Q: Does it matter what level I am?
A: No, have a big focus on community spirit and welcome everyone into our studio. We use our periodised training plans to assist you no matter where you are in your training journey, and develop your skills. Using headphones allows us to coach individually or use a microphone to coach everyone clearly at the same time, so you’ll have the attention you need in the class.
Q: Do you need cycling kit?
A: No this isn’t necessary, but we do recommend you have some padded shorts for comfort!
Q: What shoes do I need to wear?
A: We have two types of pedals, so you can wear trainers, or cycling shoes, and we will fit the appropriate pedal for you.
Q: Is this just for cyclists?
A: No, we train many clients who train for different sports such as running or swimming. It’s a fantastic way to cross train and enhance your skills.
Q: Does it track my stats?
A: Yes we have a built-in profile to keep all your data and bike set up for you. When you sign up to our classes you will be asked to set up a My Powerwatts profile, where you will be able to see all of your stats after each class.
Q: What is CP20M?
A: Critical power is the power you can ride at/sustain for a period of time (in this case 20 minutes) when riding at a high intensity. We use this metric in our classes to allow us to train all levels of riders effectively from pros to absolute beginners.
